A LEGENDARY CLUB

P-A-R-I-S.

Five letters that resonate around the world. Historically incomparable, culturally unique, the City of Light shines in the sporting world too in the colours red and blue.

Since 1970, the Parisian magic has been in constant supply in the west of the French capital at the Parc des Princes. In just a few decades, Paris Saint-Germain has become a benchmark in French sport. Over the 41 years of its existence, the club branded 'Made in Paris' has won 17 national trophies and one European (1995-96).

Already a standard bearer, the institution embarked on a sharp upward trajectory in 2011 when Qatar Sports Investments took the helm. A new era had started, and with it, came unprecedented success. The facts are undeniable: Paris has established itself as a global city in all aspects. Elegance and respect are part of the fabric of the city, and these attributes are also clear in its ambassadors draped in Rouge-et-Bleu across three domains.

Men's football, women's football and handball: the badge brings them all together, forming them into the driving force behind an XXL-sized project.

In 2015-2016, the Parisian 'Dream Team' helped itself to a second successive domestic quadruple - a performance never before seen among Europe's top five leagues. And European concerns were high on the club's list of priorities, with the Champions League trophy - the Holy Grail for all Parisians - the primary target for anyone wearing the red and blue Paris shirt.

In May 2017, the men's team claimed their 15th title in the space of six years! Paris' own 'Untouchables' - Thiago Silva, Maxwell and Pastore - took Paris to the top of the list of France's most successful clubs.

In 2019-2020, the capital club was crowned French champions. It is Paris Saint-Germain’s ninth triumph after 1986, 1994, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 and the club’s 43rd trophy since its creation 51 years ago!

HISTORY

Paris Saint-Germain was born on 12 August 1970 and the fusion of Paris FC – created a year earlier to fill the void of having no top-flight club in the capital – and Stade Sangermanois, founded in 1904 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, the birth town of Louis XIV.

Thanks to the support of the capital's media and 20,000 subscribers, 'socios' from the very beginning, Paris finally had a football team that took flight in 1973, when fashion designer Daniel Hechter took over the club and designed its classic jersey. Coached by French football legend Just Fontaine, PSG won promotion to the first division a year later and slowly began attracting the first stars of Les Rouge et Bleu such as Mustapha Dahleb and Carlos Bianchi.

In 1978, Daniel Hechter handed control of the club to Francis Borelli, under whose guidance Les Rouge et Bleu won their first silverware: the Coupe de France in 1982 and 1983 and the league in 1986, during a decade marked by players such as Safet Susic, Luis Fernandez and Dominique Rocheteau.

Canal+ took over the club in 1991, and propelled PSG to the forefront of the European game. Between 1993 and 1997, the club from the French capital made five European semi-finals in a row. Led by football icons David Ginola, George Weah and Valdo, amongst others, PSG won a second league title in 1994, two years before lifting the UEFA Cup Winners Cup.

The European trophy was the crowning moment of this generation, and the emblematic Rai, Bernard Lama, Alain Roche, Paul Le Guen, Daniel Bravo, Vincent Guérin, Youri Djorkaeff and Bruno Ngotty, the goal scorer in the final against Rapid Vienna, in Brussels.

At the start of the 21st century, there were new stars... but despite the magic of Ronaldinho and the goals of Pedro Pauleta (109 goals), PSG struggled to rescale the heights. Before changing stratosphere in 2011, with the arrival of new owners, Qatar Sports Investments and Chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. They established an extremely ambitious project, incarnated by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and today, by Edinson Cavani, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé; a project that has one aim: to take Paris Saint-Germain to the summits of the European game, having already transformed Les Rouge et Bleu into the most successful French club in history, with 36 trophies, including 16 since the arrival of QSI.

Pedro Miguel Pauleta, emblematic Paris Saint-Germain striker between 2003 and 2008 (109 Goals), became the official ambassador of the Paris Saint-Germain Academy in December 2013.

His strong emotional bond and his history with the club make him the perfect ambassador to accompany the Academy's development in France
